KING Case Histories are a series of project reports, some typical applications and some unique, in which KING personnel and products have provided solutions for consulting engineers, owners and contractors.

These projects range from small concrete rehabilitation projects to large international mining and tunneling projects. They cover the use of many of KING’s products in markets throughout North America and worldwide.

Apartment Building, North York, ON

Original construction of this 30 year old building resulted in the balcony slabs being curled back toward the building. A cementitious topping was applied years ago in an attempt to divert the water away from the building but had since cracked and delaminated. Delso Restoration Limited suggested using KING FA-S6 to replace the topping due to their past success and working knowledge of the product.

Phase I (West side of building) and Phase II (East side) were completed in 1996 and 1997 respectively. The original topping was removed; the slabs were scarified with a 7 KG (15 lb). hammer and then cleaned. The FA-S6 was applied with a minimum of a 2.5 cm (1 inch) depth to 80 percent of the balcony slabs. After curing, all slabs were sounded and no delamination or cracking was evident. Both Delso Restoration Limited and TAK Engineering Limited are pleased with the results and would recommend the use of FA-S6 in the future.
